IT FEELS GOOD TO BE FIT AND HEALTHY

Welcome to my blog. I was so tired all the time and so sick and tired of being sick and tired. On July 7th 2010 I took that first step and pressed play to one of the awesome workouts I now do on a daily basis. I work out at home on my own terms, I am accountable to myself but do have an awesome support group of others like me that keep me on track. I never thought that at age 52 I could ever be fit again but age is just a number. I am so excited and amazed at my own results and I love, love, love to share what I do with others. If you are struggling with your weight or just want to tone up, I can help you. Take that first step and contact me. I love to help people. I am always ready and willing to share what I do and get this..it's always FREE!!! Help me to help you today.

Shoulder Injury 2 months later

Back in September I was on a nice bike ride along the Sacramento River Trail with my friend Teaeli. This trail is used by runners, walkers, older folks to children, it is also used by hard core Bikers to train on who sometimes have no regard for everyone else. On my haste to move out of the way of a group of about 15 bikers barreling toward us, I over-corrected and ended flat on my back. Anyway, I won't sit here and bash these hard core bikers who were obviously on a mission..hope they won!

My right side ended up injured especially my shoulder. I was pretty bruised and scraped up. I went to the Doctor the next day just to get checked out and thankfully nothing was out of place or broken, just my spirit a little. Went home and the journey starts.

That Sunday I ran a 5k (in pain) and noticed that my leg was aching but I finished and placed 4th in my age group but all I really wanted to do was go home and rest which I should have done from the beginning. Because here I am now almost 2 months after my accident still in pain. Why? Because don't you know I have to get my 6 to 7 days of hardcore workouts in. What will my workout buddies think? Who cares, I need to get down to business and get myself healed.

What I have learned that even when I modify, it is still not enough. After meeting with a physical therapist just last week that my wonderful doctor referred me to, he advised me that if I want get better, I must do what he tells me. He gave me a few simple exercises to do once a day..no weights!! No running, no jogging, no jumping, no power jumps, no jumping jacks, NOTHING that involves reaching over and above my head... Basically "sit on my hands"..Do you how hard that is??? I am 5'1" everything is above my head!!!! I can ride my bike, work on my legs and abs as long as my arms stay across my body. Okey dokey.

I am trying not to get depressed, I tried a cycling class, I liked it a lot but when I stood up during the workout for those "rollers" it did irritate that shoulder a little so I'll just lean on the left shoulder next time. I am so afraid that this will never go away or take extra long to heal, but I am going to do what the doctor says. Too bad if my house gets dirty, dinner doesn't get cooked, dishes don't get done, etc etc...

I have worked so hard to get to where I am today. I don't want to go backwards, I can already feel my fat coming back from cutting down on my workouts and I have lost muscle so that tells me I have to really pay attention to what I put in my body. Super clean eating. Abs are made 70% in the kitchen and 30% in the gym anyway right??

I have always felt pride in my upper body and I will get back there by the summer for sure and I should have my 6 pack by then too.. wink wink

I've learned my lesson. Rest and recovery after an injury, if it hurts don't do it till your all healed.
